Lease on Diamond Extended till 2010

I’m sure the players are really stoked about that.  Actually, it’s probably a good thing since it allows everyone more time to hash out a deal on a new park, although there’s not much going on in the negotiations front.  All the pundits and so-called experts say that a new park will solve the lagging attendance issues; it would certainly be a Godsend for the players.  It’s admittedly embarassing to hear about the cramped conditions for the teams and lack of remotely adequate facilities.  Classic Richmond, where people are more concerned with their neighbor’s lawn than with something as unifying or satisfying as a professional ball club.   Here’s an unrelated thought, I was watching Magnum last night, and does anything on TV these days compare to the high concept action dramas of the 80s?  No way.  A Team, MacGuyver, Magnum, The Dukes, Airwolf, Streethawk, Knight Rider, Fall Guy, Hunter, Baywatch, Greatest American Hero, etc.  It doesn’t get more entertaining.

Busy and Lazy

August 22, 2007

Been pretty busy recently with school and work; still no excuse for not posting about the heated race of the IL South, which unfortunately Durham took a 1 game lead with their W over the Braves on Tuesday.  Major bummer.  The Braves had been sitting in 1st since April 9.  Vengeance will be had tonight I’m sure.  I can’t imagine that anyone’s been too bothered with the lack of bloggage here.  Nobody reads the damn thing anyway.

Rockies

August 13, 2007

Took an impromptu trip to Denver to see my brothers and nephew over the weekend.  Luckily the Cubs were in town, so we went to Coors Field for the Saturday night game.  I wish I knew how to load pix onto this blog because I took a few sweet ones.  The Rockies crushed the Cubs 15-2, and the highlight was a pinch hit grand slam by Jamey Carroll to break a sixth inning tie.  As you see by the score, the Rockies weren’t done then, but it was my first major league grand slam and it was awesome.  We dropped about 50 high fives with all the people sitting nearby; attendance was at 48K.  It was a gorgeous night in DTown.  Denver is one of the best cities I’ve been to.

Friday Night Lites

August 6, 2007

Had several of those at the Diamond on Friday for the Braves big W over the Indians.  It was a great game with some awesome offense.  No time to extrapolate now.  Here’s an interesting tidbit: On Saturday, ARod hit his 500th off ex-Richmond Brave (and current Royal) Kyle Davies in the Bronx.  Brand new Yankee Wilson Betemit, another ex-RBrave, had 3 hits that same game.
